It is vital to your home’s worth to keep the exterior of your house clean. Not only is the worth of your home on the table but so is your curb appeal. When it comes to restoring the appearance of vinyl siding, a pressure washer is an absolutely necessary tool, as it will enable you to blast away dirt, soil, and mold with satisfaction.

Prep Your Work Area:

Before you get started with your power washer, you should begin by getting your workspace ready. Think about your surroundings and yourself. You’ll want to get your hands on a pair of safety goggles and a face mask. Since you will be spraying away possible mildew and mold, you don’t want to be inhaling any nasty substances.

The next items you should be covering are your surroundings. Make sure your outside furniture is covered and sealed. It is also a good idea to put tarp or coverings around any plant containers so no spare particles can land in them. Another item on your list should be any electrical components. To avoid any shorts or mishaps with electrical work, you’ll want to make sure that no moisture enters your electrical outlets. Be sure to unplug anything that could be a danger to you and your home.

Spraying Methods:

Don’t be afraid to change the pressure as you are washing your siding. If the stream isn’t forceful enough to get rid of some dirt, you should turn it up little by little. If you don’t feel comfortable turning the nozzle, remember that you can increase or decrease pressure by getting closer or further away from your home.

You should avoid spraying in circles, swirls, or other indiscriminate patterns. Not only is this inefficient, but it can also leave behind obvious streaks due to the way it pushes the dirt around.

Section Your Home Out:

We know that spraying your home can be overwhelming, that’s why we are here to tell you that it’s okay to section it out. Start with a little area of your siding and work toward a bigger area. If the dirt is being stubborn in your working area, hold the power washer on the problem area to loosen it up. Feel free to return to any areas if you aren’t satisfied with the cleanliness. Take your time; long-standing messes may not come off right away.

Aftermath:

After you have washed, waited, and rinsed your siding, you should inspect for any issues that could have occurred during the process. By inspecting for signs of damage and deterioration, you can avoid costly problems in the future. Should you happen to discover potential problem areas, get in touch with a contractor. These areas will need to be dealt with sooner rather than later by patching or replacing the damaged section.
