When is the Best Time of Year to Replace Your Windows?

If you are in need of new windows, it’s important to plan ahead. Many factors are involved when planning exterior renovation projects, especially ones that leave your home open and exposed to the outside, like window replacements.

The Perfect Weather

Many contractors tend to shy away from replacing multiple windows during the intense heat of summer and the bitter cold of winter. Even though we only replace one window at a time before moving onto the next, the interior of your home is still exposed for a period of time. The heat and cold can make your home and family uncomfortable. Most homeowners are weather-conscious and want to avoid this inconvenience when it comes time for replacing windows. We recommend replacing your windows when the weather is mild and reliable.

Here in Nebraska, the best time of year to replace your windows is fall. Compared to the rest of the year, fall weather is typically free from extreme temperatures, rain, storms, and intense winds – all of which can disrupt your project. In addition, extreme weather can delay project completion. Temperate weather ensures your project will be completed on time, in the most comfortable way.

With the mild weather also comes fewer insects. Replacing windows in spring and summer means mosquitoes, ants, spiders, and other unwanted guests have an open door (or window, rather) into your home. If you choose to replace your windows during fall, you are much less likely to have any issues with bugs.

Energy Efficiency Before Winter

Replacing your windows before winter ensures that old, cracked, energy-inefficient windows aren’t compromising your energy bill. Having new energy-efficient windows in place by winter will not only reduce your heating costs, but it will provide you with a more comfortable, draft-free home.

Many homeowners put off replacing their windows until it’s absolutely necessary. Usually, this happens in the dead of winter when they begin to sense very cold drafts. This is when old windows are at their most fragile state and are easily broken due to brittleness caused by freezing temperatures. It’s important to be proactive about replacing your windows so you aren’t forced to be reactive when the issue becomes urgent.
