The end of 2021 is just weeks away! We’ve seen home styles rapidly change over the last 2 years as people have spent more time in their homes than ever before. Home exteriors are no exception, especially since the new construction boom.
When you drive through Omaha neighborhoods, it’s often apparent what decade their homes were built in based on the style of the homes you see. Neighborhoods that were established in the ‘60s and ‘70s tend to boast split entry homes with beams surrounding their windows. Neighborhoods built in the ‘90s tend to see a lot of brick and more 2-story floor plans. As you move into newer neighborhoods, you can see the trends shift. Here are the exterior trends that we think will stick around and even grow in popularity in 2022.
Thin Black Windows
Black windows have been trending for a few years now. Their popularity likely comes from the way they create a picture frame to the scenery outside of your home. More recently, we’ve seen an increase in black windows with very thin, black grilles. Grilles are the lines that create a grid between the panes of your home’s windows.
When black windows first became popular, their grilles were often ½ inch or thicker. The grilles also created multiple panes, usually 6-9 in each sash. These windows were typically framed with a thick, black trim as well. What you ended up with was a bulky window style and a fairly obstructed view.
Black windows are still just as popular, but their style is changing. We predict in 2022 that you will see many single sash windows with thin, black window grilles, minimal panes, and minimal frames. As you can see in the example below, the more modern style of black windows offers a higher end, dainty, and expensive look.
Natural Stone
Stone is a timeless addition to your home’s exterior. In 2022, we predict that we will continue to see the use of stone in many home’s exteriors. We will start to see less use of narrow, stacked stone. Instead, many homeowners will opt for wider, larger, flat stone. In addition, we will see white, grey, and black stone used much less frequently in exchange for natural colored stone.
Wide or Double Exterior Doors
Your front door is an easy opportunity to make a statement. One of the trends that has become increasingly popular and that we will continue to see going into 2022 is extra wide or even double front doors.
Having an extra wide front door or two entry doors side-by-side creates a distinguished, high-end look that will wow your guests. Double front doors make your home stand out and will add great curb appeal. On the practical side, wide or double front doors make it much easier to move furniture and other large objects in and out of your home. In addition, if you choose doors with windows, you’re allowing even more light into your entryway, which can make the space feel even larger.
