Many of our clients choose to update the look of their home when they need to have a new roof installed. Not only will a new roof protect your home, but it can also provide a much-needed curb appeal boost. But how can you be sure that your new roof color will be cohesive with the rest of your home? We’ve put together a quick guide with selection tips to help you through the process.
Drive Around
The simplest thing you can do to get ideas for your new roof is to drive around your neighborhood or city and seek out homes with similar color pallets as yours. Make note of the roof colors and styles you see, and which you prefer. You may even be lucky enough to catch the homeowner outside so you can ask about their roof. In addition to sparking ideas, this will also help you eliminate colors and styles you don’t like.
Research
Houzz, Pinterest, blogs, and other online resources are full of inspiration when it comes to roof color and style choices. Start by searching for the style and elevation of your home, and save any photos of homes, roofs, and shingle styles you like. Spend some time going through the photos you saved and creating a mood board. Eliminate photos that don’t quite fit your vision.
Use Technology to Visualize
There are lots of online visualization tools you can utilize to “try on” a new roof color. We recommend using something like CertainTeed’s Colorview tool to get an idea of what your new roof color and style will look like on your home. Use an existing photo of a home similar to yours, or upload an image of your own home. If you are planning other exterior renovations, you can also update the color of your siding, trim, doors, and shutters with this tool to get a full visualization of the finished product.
